Register now for the Inaugural Meeting of the European Platform of Universities Engaged in Energy Research, Education and Training (EPUE) 23-24 February 2012, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands
January 19, 2012
In the context of the “grand societal challenge” of securing energy supply, greater energy efficiency and enhancing research and skills capacities in Europe, which are major priorities within the European Commission’s forthcoming research and innovation funding programme for 2014-2020 (HORIZON 2020), the EUA-EPUE Platform aims to establish a strong voice for university-based energy research and education programmes at the European level. EUA is building this Platform as its contribution to the EU Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-PLAN) and the European Energy Research Alliance.
European Universities now have a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the creation of the “SET-PLAN Energy Education and Training Initiative” launched in December 2011. EUA has the newly appointed role of bringing Europe’s universities into the development of this education and training initiative.
Consequently, an important expected outcome of the EUA-EPUE Inaugural Event at TU Delft will be the mobilisation of universities interested in education and training in the energy field. Universities that have existing Masters and PhD programmes or have ambitions to develop them in the coming years are strongly encouraged to attend the EPUE Delft Inaugural Event to represent their interests and views.
At present, over 160 European universities with research and training capacity in the energy field, ranging from science, engineering and technology to bio-sciences, medical/life sciences and economics, social sciences and the humanities have indicated their willingness to join the EUA-EPUE Platform.
At the inaugural EPUE meeting in February, discussions will focus on the potential role and development of the platform aimed to ensure that university strengths and capacities in fundamental research and training, and collaborative activities with industry partners, are properly included in forthcoming EU energy activities in Horizon 2020 and in the “SET Plan Energy Education and Training Initiative”. In addition to interactive discussions amongst participants, the programme will include high-level contributions from the EC Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, the Directorate-General for Energy, and university leaders who have been involved in the initial development of the European Platform.
More information on the EPUE conference is available on the event website.
