European universities aim to support, for the benefit of all, the continued development of the culture, society, technology and economy of Europe. Our vision of European universities of the future is that of a system of academic institutions with highly diversified profiles, providing a wide spectrum of graduate qualifications and facilitating the mobility of staff and students. This is only possible through promoting autonomous institutions, able to define their own strategy and build partnerships in their own best interests.
The mix of teaching and research activities is unique to European universities and for this reason, their involvement is key to both building a Europe of knowledge and ensuring access to all who can benefit from higher education. European universities take full responsibility for the quality of the teaching, learning and research that they deliver as well as for strengthening their accountability procedures.
Adequate funding is a prerequisite for European universities to carry out their work to the best international standards. Universities are working to diversify their funding streams and committed to exploring combined public/private funding models.
