Registrations open for “European Universities in the Energy Transition: Towards a Clean Energy Future”, 23-24 October 2017, Brussels

07 September 2017

The European Platform of Universities in Energy Research & Education (EUA-EPUE) and the UNI-SET consortium are welcoming registrations for the 6th UNI-SET Energy Clustering Event on the topic "Universities in the Energy Transition: Towards a Clean Energy Future". Registration is free of charge and will close on 16 October 2017.

The conference will showcase the important contribution and mobilisation of universities towards a carbon-neutral society and in particular, towards the goals of the Energy Union and the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan). Participants will discuss how the momentum could be enhanced in the following years, following the publication of the European Atlas for Universities in Energy and the Roadmap for European Universities in Energy

As a result of extensive work with more than 100 companies and 200 universities, an overview of the first pan-European attempt to address the skills gap between higher education provision and needs and expectations of the business sector for the energy transition will be given. The UNI-SET consortium will present recommendations for universities, companies and policymakers for the design of energy education and research activities in the fields of energy efficiency in buildings and in industry, energy systems and smart cities, and on the integration of renewable energies.

It will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan and debate how the future European Framework Programme (FP9) can support the linkage of research, innovation and education objectives in the field of energy.

Speakers at the event include high level academics, representatives from industry and pan-European organisations and policy makers in the energy field. Confirmed speakers are Professor Rolf Tarrach, President of European University Association (EUA); Mr Nils Røkke, Chair of European Energy Research Alliance (EERA); Professor Mary Ritter, Pro-Rector for Postgraduate Affairs at Imperial College London and Research, Innovation and Science Policy (RISE) expert; Professor Martin Freer, Director of Birmingham Energy Institute, and many others.
