Call for Contributions on Research Assessment in the Transition to Open Science

The call for contributions is now closed.

EUA has opened a call for contributions to a series of workshops on research assessment in the transition to Open Science. The 2019 workshop will focus on “Research Assessment for Researchers’ Recruitment and Career Progression” . The one-day event will take place on 14 May 2019 in the University Foundation in Brussels, Belgium.

Researchers, research funders, research performing organisations and policymakers, including the European Commission and its Open Science Policy Platform, are increasingly concerned over the dominance of journal-based metrics in research assessment and its negative effects. As a result, they are starting to engage in discussions on more accurate, transparent and responsible approaches to research evaluation.

As part of our commitment in the EUA Roadmap on Research Assessment in the Transition to Open Science, the series of workshops will raise awareness and foster discussion by introducing key issues related to research assessment reform. The 2019 edition will focus on research evaluation for the purpose of recruitment and career progression of researchers. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and discuss innovative practices, as well as reflect on a concerted approach to the reform process

EUA is therefore seeking contributions related to research assessment reform from institutional leaders (rectors, vice-rectors and heads of administration), research department and library staff and researchers. EUA is particularly interested in new and innovative research assessment practices for the purposes of:
- Recruitment and career progression of individual researchers
- Evaluating the performance of research units
- Allocating research funding within the institution

For full details on the call for contributions and the submission process, please consult the documents below. The deadline to submit is Friday 1 March 2019.
