Background
The EUA Energy & Environment Platform (EUA-EPUE) and Durham University are organising the 1st Energy & Environment Clustering Event in Durham, United Kingdom. We invite bottom-up proposals to shape the conference programme.
The Energy & Environment Clustering Events aim to support universities in addressing social and technological challenges of the energy transition and climate change. This series of events is addressed to university leadership, energy professionals and policy-makers active in higher education and research in the field of energy and environment. The event builds upon the “Energy Clustering Events” organised as part of the UNI-SET project (2014-2017) and the Conference “European Universities for a Clean Energy Future” hosted by the University of Lorraine in March 2018.
University research and education have a key role to play in the energy transition and care for the environment, particularly in exploring new business models and citizen behaviours to achieve these goals. Collaboration between universities and businesses and with citizens is essential to ensure that the newly generated knowledge is put at the service of society. In this context, what is the role of research, education and training? How will we create solutions for the social and technological challenges of the energy transition and climate change? These are the key themes which are going to be addressed at the 1st Energy & Environment Clustering Event.
The event aims to highlight good practices of universities and other relevant actors to facilitate mutual learning and exchange. The submissions can also be used as a basis to inform the platform’s positions and priorities in European research and innovation policy.

Please follow the instructions below to develop and submit a proposal for the 1st Energy & Environment Clustering Event.
Types of contributions
EUA-EPUE and Durham University invite you to submit contributions addressing one of the following topics:
- Engagement of consumers and citizen communities in the energy transition and care for the environment, such as consumer behaviour, energy end-user empowerment, informative billing, energy communities, etc.
- Transition to a circular economy for the energy transition and care for the environment, such as the impact on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions.
Within each topic, we welcome contributions about multidisciplinary and collaborative initiatives in educating and training the next generation of master's graduates and doctorates, building research capacity within universities and other higher education and research institutions, or strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation between universities and citizen communities, policy-makers and industry/business.
Format
Parallel sessions will include three to four timeslots for short presentations. We encourage speakers to use a format actively engaging with the audience and reflecting on the process of developing, implementing and upgrading their activities, in order to facilitate mutual learning at the conference.
Submission
All proposals need to be submitted through the online form and must be in English. If you wish to submit more than one case, please use a separate form for each proposal.
The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, 21 June 2019.

- Abstract of maximum 500 words
Results
Received applications will be evaluated by the conference’s scientific committee.
Registration to the event
Registrations will open in mid-June and participation in the event is free of charge.
