EUA 2018 Annual Conference: Engaged and responsible universities shaping Europe

12 April 2018

The University of Zurich welcomed 400 EUA members on 5-6 April to discuss the pivotal role of universities in generating knowledge, developing intercultural understanding and fostering civic engagement through their core missions.

The first keynote speech was delivered by Ulrike Felt, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Vienna, who explored the new understanding and practices of engagement in European universities. A video is available on the EUA YouTube channel.

You will also find a lively report of the discussions in our selection of the nearly 900 tweets exchanged during the conference through the hashtag #EUA2018Zurich. Presentations and pictures are available on the EUA website and Flickr account respectively.

The conference was preceded on 4 April by the Leadership Roundtable with rectors from all over Europe. The meeting focused on the role of leadership in developing universities’ social responsibilities, which proved to be very timely and encouraged all participants to contribute by sharing their own perspectives. The Roundtable was very much appreciated by the participating rectors and will be proposed again at next year’s Annual Conference.

We look forward to welcoming you to the next EUA Annual Conference which will be hosted by the Sorbonne University on 11-12 April 2019. This will be an important event for the Association at which elections will be held for the new EUA President and five Board members, in addition to an exciting programme that will concentrate on university innovation systems.
