EUA hosts first Research and Innovation Strategy Group meeting

19 October 2022

On 14 October, members of a new group tasked with guiding the European University Association’s work on research and innovation came together for a first meeting in Brussels.

The Research and Innovation Strategy Group (RISG) was established to formulate EUA strategy and policy for all R&I topics of relevance to European universities. Building on the legacy of the former Research Policy Working Group, the RISG will provide advice and support to the EUA Board based on strategic horizon scanning and policy review. The group will also formulate EUA positions, statements and recommendations on European research and innovation programmes.

At its inaugural meeting, members of the group discussed existing and emerging priorities for the university sector stemming from EU policies as well as broader national and international developments. These priorities will be reflected in a four-year EUA research and innovation agenda which RISG members will devise over the coming months. The group will also oversee the activities of EUA’s Expert Groups on Open Science and on Innovation as well as the Green Deal task-and-finish group.
