Online workshop: Recognising Learning and Promoting Inclusion - conversations on access to university in Europe for refugees and displaced people, 30 October

20 October 2020

The Refugee Education Initiatives 2 (REIs 2) consortium organises the online workshop “Recognising Learning and Promoting Inclusion: conversations on access to university in Europe for refugees and displaced people” on 30 October.

The workshop is part of the EU-funded REIS2 project and it is coordinated by the EUA member in Austria, Central European University. It aims to address the following questions:

  • What are good and bad practices in assessing and recognising the learning and previous qualifications of refugees and asylum seekers?
  • How might the recognition of qualifications and previous learning of displaced people be done in a way to foster not only access but success in higher education?  Is there a way to think recognition of qualifications as part of a long-term strategy on access to higher education that incorporates increasing the likelihood of success in universities post-enrolment?
  • How might attempts to make the university more inclusive cooperate with practices to recognize previous qualifications, so that attempts at inclusion are targeted and grounded in policy realities?
  • How well are the provisions of the Lisbon Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications held by Refugees and Displaced Persons implemented at national or university levels?

This is the first of a series of three workshops, all reflecting on different and connected aspects of access and participation to higher education for refugees and displaced people. The other two workshops will be on pedagogy and on preparatory programs.
