1st International Forum on Complementary Pathways for Admission to Third Countries

The International Institute of Humanitarian Law, through its Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law, is organizing the first International Forum on Complementary Pathways for Admission to Third Countries, in collaboration with UNHCR’s Division of International Protection (DIP).


The Online Forum will be delivered in English from 7 to 25 November 2022. While the first week will comprise a self-study phase, the remaining two weeks will include daily live sessions, scheduled from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, Rome time (CET). The application deadline is 31 October 2022.

The Forum is developed primarily to benefit: 

  • Government officials and other civil servants with competencies in education, labour and admission policies;
  • Professors and other academic staff representing universities interested in fostering inclusion of refugee students;
  • Members of the private sector, civil society and other interested stakeholders including student associations and refugee-led organizations;
  • Staff of international organizations with mandates relating to the promotion of complementary pathways, including the UNHCR.

There will be no registration fee to attend, but prior registration is required.

Introductory reference materials on the international institutional and legal framework for the protection of refugees will be made available in the Institute's Online Learning Platform for participants who have no previous background in refugee protection.

The early registration deadline is 22 October 2022.

The overall deadline for registration is 7 November 2022.
