External examining using data to support effective quality assurance and enhancement at the University of Edinburgh

Nichola Kett

Abstract

This paper session will cover how the University of Edinburgh has made improvements to data available to support quality assurance and enhancement processes using a project to develop a system to support external examining as an example. Background on what external examining is and how it operates within the context of both the UK and the University will be provided.

The changes made to external examiner reporting within the University and the resulting impact will be outlined. Attendees will then have the opportunity to discuss how external examining (or equivalent/related processes) are managed within their institutions and aspects or approaches outlined in the paper that would be relevant/helpful within their institutions.
