EUA Webinar: Covid-19 and changes in learning and teaching
Since the Covid-19 outbreak, universities across Europe have been adapting their ways of teaching and interacting, mostly by shifting to online mode. This webinar examined changes in learning and teaching during the coronavirus crisis: which challenges have been solved, which ones still prevail? How have higher education institutions managed to transform learning and teaching in this context? What are the lessons learnt so far, and what are the prospects and future scenarios for the autumn semester, and beyond?
University representatives from different European countries shared their experiences with remote teaching, their plans for the autumn, and their views on the overall impact of the Covid-19 crisis on learning and teaching.

Kornelia Freitag
Kornelia Freitag is currently serving as Vice Rector for Academic and International Affairs at Ruhr University Bochum. Ruhr University is a German comprehensive university with 43,000 students. It is a member of the EUA and the Utrecht network.
Freitag is also the spokesperson of the group of vice rectors for academic affairs of the 14 North-Rhein Westphalian universities. She is also a member of the EUA Learning & Teaching Steering Committee.
At Ruhr University, she holds the chair of the American Studies and has published widely on American poetry and transnational literature. Her research focusses on experimental US writing and the ways in which globalisation, postcolonialism, or cosmopolitanism affect the structures and effects of literary texts.

Manel Jiménez Morales
Manel Jiménez Morales is a graduate in a communication from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and in literary theory and comparative literature from the University of Barcelona.
Jiménez Morales holds a PhD in social communication from Pompeu Fabra University. He has worked in the media industry, as well as in cultural programmes. He has been on several international research stages and has taught at various international universities. In 2013, he started to develop the strategy for MOOCs and new educational formats at UPF, entrusted with the incorporation of new technologies in teaching.
In 2016, Jiménez Morales took over the academic management of the CLIK (Center for Learning Innovation and Knowledge), where he has contributed to developing the new educational model of the UPF, EDvolució. He is currently the commissioner for education and communication projects at the university and in charge of several projects.

Wyn Morgan
Professor Wyn Morgan is currently Vice-President for Education and Professor of Economics at the University of Sheffield in the UK. The strategic leadership role for education tasks him with leading on all matters relating to teaching, learning and the wider student experience. Covering student recruitment, success and progression, he works across all academic departments and with many of their professional service departments too.
Professor Morgan also continues to teach and research in his disciplinary area. Prior to coming to Sheffield, he was Assistant Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning and Professor in Economics at the University of Nottingham, where he also took on a number of managerial roles in learning and teaching.
His research focuses on food economics with particular reference to food prices and inflation, and he has undertaken work for Defra, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the House of Lords.
