The EUA-CDE thematic workshops provide a forum for exchange and discussion between members. The tenth edition focused on ethics and integrity in doctoral education and research training.
Developing an ethos of research integrity has been highlighted by EUA-CDE as one of the main challenges that have appeared in the academic landscape in the past five years. As social awareness of this issue continues to grow, universities are confronted with new ethical questions brought by digitalisation. Moreover, the increasing pressure on young researchers to publish has started to impact and compromise good practices in research conduct.
The thematic workshop promotes an exchange of ideas on the shared responsibility between staff on all institutional levels to train young researchers in good research ethics and integrity. While supervisors will continue to play a key role in passing on good research conduct, there is a clear need for a more structured approach that is supported by university leadership and implemented by management and supporting staff. This includes the availability of training courses, a supportive work environment and conducive institutional strategies.
The thematic workshop is open only to EUA-CDE members. It brings together and promotes exchanges between university leaders, vice-rectors, deans and heads of doctoral schools, researchers, administrators and other stakeholders interested in the development of doctoral education. The workshop is a forum for discussing new and exciting ideas in the field of doctoral education, exchanging experiences, mutual learning and building new partnerships and collaborations during the many networking opportunities.
