The next webinar in the European University Association’s series ‘A new ERA for universities’ will explore the European Research Area’s first action, focusing on enabling the open sharing of knowledge and the re-use of research outputs. It will be held on 27 November 2024 at 10.00-11.30 CET.
Action 1 aims to foster a step change across scientific communities and research infrastructures in Europe towards open sharing, seamless access and reliable re-use of data and all other digital objects produced along the research life cycle. The development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) will represent a key enabler for this to happen, as it will provide the material and immaterial infrastructure to sustain the transition to open science and digital research. Universities can play an important role in the roll-out of EOSC, as both future end-users of its services and by federating their data infrastructure to the new ecosystem. However, the opportunities and ways for universities to effectively engage with EOSC remain insufficiently explored.
Together with a panel of experts, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the action’s activities to support the implementation of open science principles and practices and the development of EOSC. They will also learn about synergies with other actions and next steps. In particular, the webinar will introduce the proposals for two new ERA actions related to Open Science, which are currently being discussed as part of the upcoming ERA Policy Agenda for 2025-2027.
Registration for the webinar is free of charge and open to EUA members only.
This event is the seventh of a series of webinars to demystify the new European Research Area (ERA). ERA Policy Agenda 2022-2024 and its17 ongoing ERA actions are in their final stage, and the next ERA Policy Agenda is being shaped. In this context, what does ERA actually mean for universities? Why should university leaders care about ERA? And how can universities get involved nationally in shaping ERA? While the first webinar introduced the new ERA to EUA members, the series then turned to exploring the many ERA actions of high importance for universities and their future.
