From 28 till 30 October 2025, the European Flagship Conference on Research Security will take place in Brussels.
Join the debate on the development of a European approach to research security.
Openness and international collaboration are fundamental to excellence in research and innovation. At the same, international cooperation exposes research and innovation to serious security risks in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape. It is therefore important that international research and innovation take place in a responsible way that is both open and secure, and with full respect of academic freedom.
What strategies and good practices already exist at universities and other research performing organisations? What is the role of research funders regarding the security aspects of the projects they fund? How can public authorities develop whole-of-government approaches and effective support for the sector?
How much must be done together at the European level? What means and instruments do we have, or should we have, at EU level to be effective? And how can our international partners be included?
For whom?
This conference is for everyone involved in the EU’s research and innovation community, including policymakers, experts and stakeholders from research performing organisations, research funding organisations, business and industry, and public authorities from across the EU as well as international partners.
The organisers
The Flagship Conference is co-organised by the European Commission and the European R&I sector, through a unique collaboration with 12 European stakeholder associations: ALLEA, CESAER, Coimbra Group, EARTO, EECARO, EUA, EU-LIFE, G6, LERU, Science Europe, The Guild and YERUN.
The format
