The University of Lisbon has publicly announced the opening of a procedure to apply for the position of Rector.
The Rector is the University highest position of governance and external institutional representation. The Rector is elected by the University General Council for a four-year full time term.
Applications for the position of Rector are open to professors and researchers of the University and to those currently working for other national or foreign higher education or research institutions.
Applicants for the position of Rector shall:
(a) Be a personality of recognized academic prestige;
(b) Have significant experience as a lecturer and/or scientific researcher, his/her previous performance of managerial duties in these fields being of particular relevance;
(c) Have strategic vision, reflected in an action programme on the mission and goals pursued by the University;
(d) Be fluent in Portuguese language.
Applications shall be written in Portuguese, in digital support, and addressed to the Chairman of the General Council, until 5:00 pm GMT, July 23rd, 2025. Applications shall also include the candidate’s Curriculum Vitae, proposed Action Programme and written declaration that he/she is not in any of the non-eligibility or incompatibility situations provided for in the law, in the Statutes of the University or in the Regulations governing the Election of the University Rector. Applications can be delivered directly at the University or sent by email.
