Short research visits in Europe for young researchers and staff from universities in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the European Neighbourhood.
The Coimbra Group is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 edition of its Scholarship Programme for short-term research visits in Europe. This initiative is designed to support young researchers and academic staff from universities in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the European Neighbourhood, fostering international collaboration and academic excellence.
Coimbra Group member universities are offering nearly 80 scholarships to young professors and researchers who are both nationals and residents of the eligible regions. The programme aims to assist scholars in internationalizing their research, expanding their academic networks, and establishing collaborative ties with European institutions.
Through this initiative, selected scholars will have the opportunity to conduct short-term research visits at one of the 21 participating Coimbra Group universities across Europe.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Coimbra Group website. Each regional scholarship programme has specific eligibility criteria, and all applicants must secure a letter of acceptance from an academic supervisor at the host university. The deadline for submissions is Monday, 31 March 2025, at midnight (CET).
About the Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme
Since its inception in 1999, the Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme has provided young researchers from outside the EU with the opportunity to conduct part of their research for a period of one to three months at a Coimbra Group university. Initially established to support scholars from disadvantaged regions in Central and Eastern Europe, the programme has since expanded and is now structured into three distinct scholarship streams for researchers from the European Neighbourhood, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America.
In 2024, the programme received an impressive 707 valid applications, demonstrating its growing impact and appeal. A similar level of interest is anticipated this year.
