The European Patent Office (EPO) Observatory on Patents and Technology is leveraging patent data to analyse innovation trends and the future of technology. As part of this initiative, it is currently conducting the first pan-European study on academic patenting.

This study will explore trends and key statistics related to patents from European universities, including those filed by universities and those involving university-affiliated inventors. The findings will be presented on 22 October during an open online event.

To enhance the study's insights and conclusions, EUA is encouraging its members to share and participate in the online survey aiming to gather information about ownership policies and regulations at universities. The survey can be easily completed by TTO/KTO professionals or others familiar with institutional patenting policies. The EPO welcomes responses by 20 August.
