There have been important efforts, by the Bologna Ministers and within relevant working structures of the Bologna Process, to strengthen the fundamental values of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
According to the 2020 Rome and 2024 Tirana Ministerial Communiqués, these values encompass academic freedom and integrity, institutional autonomy, participation of students and staff in higher education governance, as well as public responsibility for and of higher education.
In the context of this work, a methodology for monitoring fundamental values has been developed and is now being implemented. This methodology encompasses both consultation of national rectors’ conferences and the establishment of an online platform to collect wide-ranging feedback on the state of fundamental values in Bologna Process countries.
This platform is now open for data collection from members of the entire academic community in the EHEA. A broad range of academic community members - including teaching staff, administrative staff, students and researchers – is invited to participate and offer feedback.
In addition, as part of the activities in support of fundamental values in the EHEA, a public website has been launched that gathers information on events, initiatives and existing resources on this important topic.
