If the European Union is to truly make its economy competitive, it must start with knowledge, bringing together those that form Europe’s knowledge base and the policy makers charged with creating the conditions to further develop and leverage it.
This is why universities need a platform to engage with policy makers over the conditions needed to put research, innovation, education and skills at the heart of the European Commission’s Competitiveness Compass.
For this reason, the European University Association has proposed a partnership for competitiveness. In Research Europe, Thomas Jørgensen argues that as the Commission looks to expand its sectoral dialogues, it would be a missed opportunity not to include the sector that forms the very foundation of Europe’s knowledge base.
