Here, Michael outlines how institutional strategies and inter-institutional peer learning are key for universities to move forward in this area, informed by the findings of the three-year Erasmus+ project DIGI-HE, led by EUA.
As such, the article covers pivotal enabling factors for universities’ digital transformation and reevaluates the role of self-assessment as a basis for strategy development and enhancement. DELT requires changes for the entire institution, and failure to give this proper consideration can bear relatively high risks in terms of costs, maintenance and interoperability, resources, and skills.
Looking into the future of DELT, there is no blueprint for institutions to follow, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence tools and other innovations on the horizon. However, sector-wide exchange and collaboration may help universities to learn from each other’s successes and challenges and explore shared solutions.
