The next webinar in the European University Association’s series ‘A new ERA for universities’ will explore the European Research Area’s seventeenth action, focusing on strengthening research management to enhance the strategic capacity of Europe’s public research performing and funding organisations. It will be held on 26 September 2024 at 10.00-11.30 CEST.
Action 17 aims to develop a ‘Research Management Initiative’ to improve the European R&I system across the entire ERA. Research management encompasses a wide variety of roles, responsibilities and tasks at institutional level. However, there is a need for a shared definition and clear career development paths for the research management profession to fully capitalise on the role that research managers play in supporting and facilitating the whole research and innovation process. To address these challenges, the action 17 addresses improving the training and skills development of research managers, contributing to the recognition of the research management profession, and supporting networking and capacity building opportunities across the ERA.
Together with a panel of experts, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the implementation of activities related to action 17 and how they impact universities. They will also learn about synergies with other actions and potential next steps.
Registration for the webinar is free of charge and open to EUA members only.
This event is the sixth of a series of webinars to demystify the new European Research Area (ERA). ERA is in the middle of its first Policy Agenda, with 17 ongoing ERA actions, and its next Policy Agenda is being shaped. In this context, what does ERA actually mean for universities? Why should university leaders care about ERA? And how can universities get involved nationally in shaping ERA? While the first webinar introduced the new ERA to EUA members, the series then turned to exploring the many ERA actions of high importance for universities and their future. The second webinar addressed action 4, on research careers, the third webinar explored action 13, on the empowerment of universities, and the fourth explored action 5, on gender equality and inclusiveness.
