On 9 December, the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) elected a new Chair and seven Steering Board members during its General Assembly.

EUA congratulates the newly elected members of the CoARA Steering Board, where universities are again well represented. In particular, the Association welcomes the election of its nominee, EUA Board member Marcin Pałys (University of Warsaw), to the coalition’s Steering Board, which will be led by Henk Kummeling (Utrecht University).

Prior to his election, Professor Pałys welcomed the work that CoARA has done in supporting the implementation of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment, notably through the establishment of 13 Working Groups and 16 National Chapters. Those groups are of key importance as they take into account national and local contexts, legal frameworks, and the diversity of institutions and assessment cultures.  At the same time, he highlighted the need to maintain a sufficient level of universality in the Coalition’s activities, as research is a global endeavour.

The Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to Rianne Letschert (Maastricht University) for her outstanding leadership as Chair of the Steering Board over the past two years. With remarkable enthusiasm and dedication, she successfully guided the launch of CoARA’s operations, the establishment of national chapters, and the creation of community-based working groups, while driving the Coalition's continued growth. Throughout her tenure, she embodied the core values of CoARA: collegiality, transparency, openness, and team spirit. EUA also expresses its sincere thanks to Vice-President Paul Boyle (Swansea University) for his invaluable contributions as a committed member of the Steering Board during the same period.

EUA is a committed supporter of CoARA, having been closely involved in its establishment in 2022. The Association currently coordinates the CoARA Working Group on Academic Career Assessment and looks forward to continuing its fruitful collaboration with the CoARA Steering Board in the future.
