The European University Association is pleased to announce that the Association’s Council has endorsed candidates for the EUA Board for the period 2025-2029.

There are four candidates:

Angelika Epple, Rector, Bielefeld University, Germany

Gregor Majdič, Rector, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia

Ivanka Popović, Former rector, University of Belgrade, Serbia

Manuel Tuñón de Lara, Former president, University of Bordeaux, France

Four open board positions will be filled at the Association’s General Assembly, taking place at the University of Latvia in Riga on 10 April 2025. Following a call for nominees launched in June 2024, the selected candidates were put forward by the EUA Nominations Committee and endorsed by the Council in January 2025. The elected candidates will take office immediately after the General Assembly.

The terms of three incumbent Board members – Paul Boyle, Ivanka Popović and Anne Lequy – end in April. As Ivanka Popović concludes her first term of office in April, she is eligible for re-election for a second four-year term. A fourth position on the EUA Board opened up following the decision of Vincent Blondel, former rector of the University of Louvain, to step down from the EUA Board in summer 2024 following his election as a Member of the Parliament of Wallonia.

Further information on the upcoming elections, including candidate profiles, are available on a dedicated elections page.
