The European University Association is pleased to announce that Angelika Epple, Gregor Majdič, Ivanka Popović and Manuel Tuñón de Lara have been elected to the EUA Board.

Their election took place this morning at the EUA General Assembly in Riga. 

Elected for the first time to the EUA Board are Angelika Epple, Rector of Bielefeld University, Germany, Gregor Majdič, Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Manuel Tuñón de Lara, Former president of the University of Bordeaux, France. Ivanka Popović, Former rector of the University of Belgrade, Serbia, was re-elected for a second term, having served on the Board since 2021.

The elected Board members will join EUA President Josep M. Garrell (Ramon Lllull University, Spain), Marcin Pałys (University of Warsaw, Poland), Astrid Söderbergh Widding (Stockholm University, Sweden), Maurizio Tira (University of Bresica, Italy) and Wim van de Donk (Tilburg University, the Netherlands) on the Association’s Board.

The elected candidates succeed Paul Boyle (Swansea University, UK) and Anne Lequy (Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, Germany), whose terms in office have come to an end, as well as Vincent Blondel (University of Louvain, Belgium), who stepped down from the Board in August 2024.

The EUA General Assembly was held in advance of the Association’s 2025 Annual Conference – ‘Connecting the dots on sustainability and resilience’, hosted by the University of Latvia.
