The European University Association’s Institutional Evaluation Programme (EUA‑IEP) has published the report of its evaluation of the INGENIUM alliance, marking a milestone in the implementation of EUA‑IEP’s new offer for European Universities alliances.

Through this evaluation, EUA‑IEP applied its improvement‑oriented approach to a European Universities alliance for the first time. It considers the alliance as a single entity, looking at how it articulates its vision, implements its strategy, monitors progress, ensures quality and prepares for sustainable cooperation beyond project funding. The evaluation took place from autumn 2025 to spring 2026, including on-site meetings at the University of Oviedo, the alliance’s coordinating institution.

The evaluation shows that this adapted methodology is highly effective in capturing both the achievements and the challenges of European Universities alliances and provides INGENIUM with a strong foundation for its ongoing strategic development. The report offers an in‑depth analysis of the alliance’s strengths and areas for enhancement in governance, teaching and learning, research, societal engagement and internationalisation.

The report is publicly available on the Database of External Quality Assurance Results and the EUA‑IEP website, thereby contributing to greater transparency around alliance‑level quality assurance and offering a concrete reference for other European Universities alliances considering an EUA‑IEP evaluation.

As the first EUA-IEP evaluation of a European Universities alliance, the mutual learning derived from this pilot will feed into the programme’s further development of guidance for alliances as well as the ongoing adaptation and improvement of the evaluation process.
